First of all, click a scene then click Open Scene to go inside of the scene.

This is how an empty scene should look like before you add anything into it.

In the visual novel, what is important? Of course, it is the script of a story! In CloudNovel, we use Pages to utilize a story. Therefore, first thing first, you need to have to add pages into a scene.

Add Pages to a Scene

There two ways to add pages to a scene.

Manually add a page.
  1. Click the Add Pages button.

  2. When a dialogue box appears, insert your text into the message box.

  3. Click Add.

  4. When a page is successfully added, it will appear under Pages panel.

Using the Import Text

We recommend you use this method if you have a bunch of text to add, for example, if you have already written your story in another document such as MS Words or Google Docs and just need to import them into the engine.

  1. Before you click Import Text, you need to make sure your script is in the correct format.
Every new line will create a new page. Empty line break, however, will not create an empty page. If you need an empty page, you may go back into the scene and manually add them by yourselves.

If you want to add a speaker, kindly put the speaker’s name inside a [bracket]. This way, the speaker will be formatted as a speaker’s name as processed as such. If you do not put the speaker’s name inside a [bracket], the engine will not recognize it and will treat your text just like a normal message text.

Try copy-paste the text below in Import Text and see the result.
    [Speaker]
    Insert dialogue number one here.
This line does not have a bracket [] on top of the line which means this line do not have a speaker. It could be a players monologue or a narration line.

An empty line break will not add a new empty page. If you want an empty page, you have to do it manually.

For text styling, you may use simple HTML tags.
For example, I want <i>this word</i> to be in italics.
Or maybe, <b>this word</b> is bold?
I want something fancier so I want <font color=red">this word</font> to be red.
Please pay attention to me. <font size="48">This word</font> should be big!

  2. Next, Click the Import Text button.

  3. Copy-paste the text inside the box in Import Text.

  4. Click Import.

  5.  Your pages will be automatically added in a bulk.
