Hello,
I don't know how to use this software very well but I am getting my assets ready slowly and was trying to make the beginning of the game but I don't know what to size the characters and backgrounds to make them appear on the screen?

So the recommended sizes for the standard visual novel are 400-500 width and 600-700 height for a character. Depending on the stage dimensions of your game, make the BGs a little bigger (like for a default 1280px by 720px stage size, make the backgrounds 1300px by 800px) so you can add nice animations like bounce or shake, and the background animations will look more natural in the scene.
