Created new topic Echoes: A Lucid9 Fangame [Potential Spoilers for Source Material] in the Discuss Your Visual Novel forum: Hey, everyone ^w^

For a good few years now, I've been a fan of the ongoing psychological horror/thriller visual novel Lucid9 by Fallen Snow Studios, which I highly recommend to anyone who read Doki Doki Literature Club and didn't find it depressing or scary enough. The ending of the first part of the game, however, killed off a character that a lot of people really liked in order to reinforce the game's grimdark tone. While it served a valid purpose in the plot, I felt that the two main characters were written well enough that more stories, albeit non-canon ones, could be told about them.
The narrative universe, particularly the fictional megacity of Isamu, Japan, was ripe for speculative worldbuilding, in my opinion, and served as an excellent potential foundation for a setting-based narrative for a story that reflects the world-weary zeitgeist of the early 2020s.

I'd like to announce that I'm developing a fangame based on the characters and narrative universe of Lucid9, but with a few significant twists. In this game, you'll explore the technologically-advanced, authoritarian dystopia that the city of Isamu has become from the perspective of Rui Hayata, a once-innocent high school student transformed into a cold-blooded, cybernetic killer by necessity and the will of the Way Forward Corporation. As Rui, you'll need to make use of your skills in diplomacy and combat to forge alliances and save Isamu and its people from a viral epidemic intent on finishing off a broken and weakened world.

Since a lack of talent on my end has led me to make use of pre-existing assets as placeholders, this project will likely be updated to Unlisted status upon completion due to legal stuff. As a heavily politicized work featuring occasional lewd humor, strong language, and themes of war and violence, the finished product will also be rated R-18. Despite the fact that I can't claim ownership of anything in or related to this fangame, or the fangame itself, I'd still like to share some details on what I've been working on in this forum post.

Promotional Graphic for Echoes: A Lucid9 Fangame, featuring an edited version of the District 3 background from the original game and a 2d sprite of this fangame's version of Rui rendered using Illusion's CharaStudio

As of writing this, the fangame is currently sitting at about 120,000 words after almost a year of writing. While it's filled with bugs, and nowhere near completion, I've created some "codex cards" thus far to outline some of the major organizations in the game. Some, like Way Forward and Lemniscate, already exist in the actual game, but others, such as Kazehaya Combine and the Special Services Division (Rui's employer) have been added into whatever the heck this alternate universe is based on (or not based on) details from the actual game.

In addition to these cards, I've also created some demo sprites using screencaps of 3d models from CharaStudio, all of which are in an even grayer area in terms of laws relating to intellectual property and things that could be considered it.

Since I'm not entirely sure if the game can be played without the risk of save corruption or flags behaving weirdly because of my inability to configure them, I've included a link below to a video walkthrough playlist of the game thus far that I add to regularly (about every one or two weeks)

I also feel morally obligated to include a link to the Lucid9 development blog where you can check out the game that this fanwork is based on. It's also, like, ten times better than whatever the heck I'm trying to do here ( ´ ω ` )

Thanks for checking out my post! I look forward to hopefully creating more of this, even though I have no idea how any of it is going to turn out.

Created new topic Feature Request: Text-Only Loading for Larger Scenes in the Support forum: Hey forum, hope your morning's going well ^w^

My main project has a lot of massive scenes in it, some which require 50 megabytes of assets or more to be loaded at a time, which can take a while to load, during some of which it's not possible to edit the text in my scene. Since my implementation of the assets is complete at this point, It would be really helpful if there was an option to load  only the text in my scenes, since I'm mainly just writing and editing at this point.

Being able to export text in exchange for points might also be useful, but I understand if such a theoretical feature would be inappropriate for an online platform like CloudNovel.

Thanks,

Posted a new reply in help >:( in the Support forum: I'm not too familiar with the community guidelines, but I don't think anything that advocates for hate or persecution will be allowed to remain on the platform.

If your visual novel portrays the N@3is as the antagonists and highlights their persecution of the Jewish and Polish peoples by depicting the crimes commited against them as horrific, immoral, and unethical, you should be fine. Just make sure the main character disapproves of the N@3is, and it's obvious that what the N@3is doing is wrong, and that they are defeated in the end. However, it might not be appropriate to allow characters to make racist or prejudiced statements, even if they are evil.

Before you do anything, though, I'd recommend clearing this with an admin to make sure it's ok.

Posted a new reply in Help with videos! in the Support forum: I'm not sure if it can be done in-engine, since it would take a lot of bandwidth or RAM (depending on the file location) but if it's a video you created that uses the 16x9 aspect ratio (1080p/720p/480p), you could most likely resize it using the video editing software that it was created in, or by using HandBrake to re-encode it at a different size.

Hope this helps ^w^

Posted a new reply in Is any having problem with their visual novel loading? in the Support forum: I've been having a few issues with one of the larger chapters in my main VN project. The other chapters appear to be loading without any complications, but this one stops at around 99% or 100%, though it's probably due to the fact that I have a lot of files that play in the scene.

Created new topic One of my scenes gets stuck at 99% while loading. Am I doing anything wrong? in the Support forum: Hey forum, hope your day's going well,

One of my larger scenes in a VN I'm working on seems to load fine until it gets to the 99 or 100% mark, even though I get the "oops, this VN is having trouble loading" message twice and it starts loading again once I dismiss that message.

It says that there are too many WebMediaPlayers in existence in the console, and that may be causing the issue. Is there a way to allow more to exist, or should I remove some of the many .wav voice line files from the scene? If not, are there any other ways I can address this issue?

Best regards,
