Posted a new reply in Formulaic in the Discuss Your Visual Novel forum: Change log

- Added soundtrack to prologue.

- Added directions and map.

- Started fourth draft of prologue.

- Started second draft of day 1.

- Three new characters.

- New location.

Will add screenshots later.

I've been reconsidering the game's time frame. Initially, I planned it to take course over one month (minimum four cutscenes, 30 interactable days), with the explanation that Karin is on probation during that time. I realized how ridiculous that was, and scrapped that plot point.

Since Formulaic is set in a Japanese school, it's more logical to have the story follow a school semester, roughly 16 weeks. Because of the significant time span, and my limited assets, I may remove the calendar feature and have the cutscenes imply the passage of dates instead. This system also would more naturally align with a certain character's romance route.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Created new topic Formulaic in the Discuss Your Visual Novel forum: Following a traumatic event, Karin Maeda moves to a new school, where she is determined to become the most popular girl in school. As she rises through the ranks of her school's social hierarchy, she must decide between following her heart or maintaining her identity.

Formulaic is a subversion of common movie and Korean drama tropes, and explores the impacts of bullying, unhealthy relationships, and societal pressures.

There will be two love interests (male and female) and three non-romantic NPCs. Over the course of 30 days, the player can socialize with them, give them gifts, and take them on dates. These activities will modify various stats, which will influence which events and weekly cutscenes will occur.

There will be six endings: one true ending, two good romantic endings, two failed romantic endings, and one game over.

Current Progress

I've created a rudimentary inventory interface. Still on the fence about the colour scheme.

And here's a WIP of the character stat page.

My third and current draft of the prologue is sitting around half a thousand words. I plan to trim to around 75% of that length.

Because I have no artistic skill, I've resorted to using free sprites and backgrounds (with the exception of the GUI). Here are a few snippets of the prologue with artwork you've probably seen a hundred times.

Created new topic Positioning Textbox Portraits in the Support forum: I'm having issues aligning textbox portraits using the slider. No matter how carefully I move the cursor, the slider always skips some numbers and I can't position portraits exactly how I like.

For example, I want a portrait to be a Y -230, but the slider will only let me place it at -221 or -235. Is there a workaround for this?
