@NKane @maximusthemighty666666 We will be able to start the vn project actually on the 3rd or 4th due to me not being near a laptop or computer for a couple more days.

@TiredBitch Gotcha. Until we start the project in earnest then, can we talk about what the project schedule will look like, the current progress on the vn's completion, the potential length of the vn (a short story roughly less than 15k words, or a long story over 80k words), and how many possible partners and endings there are?

@NKane
For the progress, it is a blank canvas. And I plan there being 3 partners and 6 possible ending to say the least. The potential length is probably be 15k words or more due to a town I plan on adding.
wow you guys legit got this ll worked out huh lol XDDD
I am thinking of having a interactive menu like story and town.

PRETTY! I'm having flashbacks to Makoto Shinkai with all these pretty colors and that deep, deep blue sky. Good choice picking ArseniXC to draft concept bgs after, they do ridiculously nice work. And an interactive town map sounds fun. I remember breaking my back trying to figure out how to program something similar for my vn. That was a nightmare and a half, but I got it done eventually.

On another note, any thoughts on entering this vn as a demo for the upcoming Valentine's Jam? Granted, the judges may ask to tweak a few things to make this more Valentine's Day themed, but I figure that worst comes to worst, we can turn it into a promotional, holiday-themed, pre-main game spin off that doubles as a beta. Get our feet wet so to speak with a short project, get feelers on our potential audience, build an audience in the first place, and then adjust accordingly for the big thing. Kind of like what these guys did (Stardander Revenant by Fancy Fish Games (itch.io)).
Yeah, that actually sounds good though we can’t work on the actual project with still no computer for me. So we can work on other things like the characters.
Alright. I already penned a question to support asking if us brainstorming violates the "don't start before the game jam begins" rule, so I would hold off doing any official artwork/scriptwriting/programming until I receive a response (roughly a day or so) but like I said. Worst comes to worst and if you two are still down for joining the jam, we can make a short holiday spin-off before jumping back into the main story. And it doesn't hurt that we can reuse the assets (namely sprites and bgs) from the jam for the main story.

Also, here's a link to my query in case you two want to take a look. (Can Contestants for the Valentine's Day Jam Start Brainstorming or Would That Violate the Rules? | CloudNovel Thread)
That actually sounds good. I was thinking when the main game comes out, it can be Valentine’s DLC kinda like Mystic Messenger.
Okay, got a reply on the game jam query. We can submit the main project as part of the Valentine's Day Jam so long as it stays in the brainstorming stage before the jam begins. That said, we don't actually have to submit the main project as our entry if you're more partial to making a Valentine's DLC, but I thought it would be nice to know that option is available.

(tbh, I'm more partial to making the Valentine's DLC too)

So moving on, what do you have on the characters so far? I'm guessing there's the MC, their two parents, 3 love interests—any side characters? Like a bff for the MC, or a reoccurring love rival?
Some cliche villainess and maybe that annoying little sister.
LOL! "Cliche villainess and annoying little sister." I'm sorry, I don't know why, but my mind immediately spawned two girls rubbing their hands and evil cackling while they plot the MC's downfall. XD

That said, I'm personally not a fan of cliched characters, if only because I find they tend to make the story bland unless if the plot acknowledges their meta-ness as a crucial plot device. (Like in this manga—Shoujo Manga Shujinkou x Rival-San Manga | Anime-Planet) Any likeable villain needs a motive and moments the audience can sympathize with, (Thanos from the MCU or Shang-Chi's Wenwu) otherwise they just get shelved in the viewer's mind as "rando bad guy A" due to a lack of character depth. That said, how about we make the villainess more interesting? +v+

1. Combine the "villainess" role with the role of "bff," "annoying little sister", or one of the "love interests". Combining roles adds more depth into the characters, because it adds a whole new greyer scale to their stance with the MC. If you combine the "villain" role with one the "love interests," it sure would make an interesting enemies-to-lovers route, especially if you go the other routes where said villain tries to sabotage your interactions, only for the reader to find out it was due to jealousy when they play the villain's love route.
2. Multiple motives. Who says a villain needs to have just one motive? I'm a fan of having multiple in mine, or one main one with multiple minor ones factoring in. I was thinking a main potential motive we can look at is the bff or the sister taking up the "villain" mantle by obstructing the MC's dreams of being an idol, similar to the MC's parents. But instead of completely shutting down the MC's dreams, I was wondering if we can go at an angle where the bff/sister will showcase their disappointment, voice their fears and concerns of the MC failing and being burnt, but won't actively interfere (like sabotaging a concert or the MC's mixtape) with what the MC is doing. I find this sort of passive interference a lot more sinister, because it's harder for the MC and readers to gain a moral ground over the "villain," since their concerns are legitimate and their motive is for the MC's benefit. If we go this route though, we're going to have to be careful not to spill full tilt into a completely toxic/emotionally abusive relationship. Or at least show a proper resolution on how to handle it. A minor, or equally potential motive could be that the villainess falls in love with one of the main love interests sometime in the story. Ooh, now there's an idea. The villainess can develop other motives as the story progresses!
I love the villainess as a love interest idea! ✨
Now that you mention the possibility of a love interest being a villainess, are we going to include any LGBTQA+ features in the game? Like an option for the player to use neopronouns, or any same gender relationship options?

Also, considering it's the 4th today, do you have access to a computer so we can get started on the project? I'm assuming we're doing the DLC option for the Valentine's Jam, instead of a demo from the main game.
