How do you guys know about visual novels? What is your first visual novel?

As for me, I have played various mobile otome games by Voltage and several other companies. However, I only know them by the term of [otome game] or [dating simulation game], I never know a term called [visual novel] existed until I played a visual novel from Zeiva Inc called Voice of the Sea.

Later on, I found Skights by Sonya back when CloudNovel has not been created and it was in fact called, joilly. I waited for her to update Skights every single day. I make sure to refresh my browser just to make sure I do not miss an update. Although now Skights has been moved to CloudNovel and was put in hiatus, I am grateful to Sonya for creating Skights because thanks to her and Zeiva Inc, I am able to find something that I actually really enjoy playing and create a new path in my life to become a visual novel developer.

That's all.
Visual novels will probably continue to open a lot of creative and technical opportunities, especially with (generally) increased worldwide interest. As an interesting statistic, the top five rising topics and queries that were googled across the globe (shown in the image below) are all labelled 'Breakout'. That means their search frequency is over fifty times as compared to as it was in the previous month.

For me, I'd first heard of the term 'visual novel' when I was searching for game-maker engines. Unity, UDK, Godot, RPG Maker MV and stuff like that. Then I found VN Maker. When scrolling down the website, I discovered I'd already seen the visual-novel-type format - in action-fantasy RPGs I played when I was younger.

If you count RPGs with visual novel features as a visual novel, my first was one published by Com2uS. If not, then it would be Errant Heart, which was developed by Pseudomé. After that was Skights on CloudNovel. Both were played in February 2018. Those two are my most highly-recommended visual novels to date. From the small number of visual novels I've played, anyway.

@Drakone I see, that is very interesting information about the Google Trends.
Okay, this might sound kinda weird, but I was looking for furry MMORPGs on Google Play and found a VN called Major/Minor. Not technically a MMORPG, but I still liked it and wanted to find more story-driven games like that.

@HorseyGator Oho, a fated meeting, I guess... fufufu~
I can't really remember which one was my first visual novel. But it was long time ago when I was in deviantart, I found a community where they made games with renpy. After that I was always on there looking for new ones to download on my sister's computer. My favorite are: Ripples, Autumn's journey, Romance detective, and a troll's fairy tale.

@HorseyGator

I too am looking for old RPGs, but I can't find them.

My sister introduced me to VN around 2-3 years ago, and CloudNovel are the first VN game website I've ever played. The first VN I played in CloudNovel is High School Otome by Sonya. Then I started to play other VN games in mobile. Until now, playing VN is my favourite hobby, especially otome games UwU

@PinkLeaf Ohooo... what's your current favorite? I kinda stopped playing the mobile otome game because I was a little bit sick with the ticketing system and the unrelated but necessary to get Super Happy Ending avatar dress up.

@PinkLeaf I have heard that but never played. Is it good? The character design reminds me so much of Mystic Messenger.

@DAX Very good! But it's hard to get the diamond >.<'' (the diamond can unlock a special choice on the story) It has a few jumpscares too, but it's not too scary.

Yes, I agree. The character design kinda reminds me of Mystic Messenger but it has a little difference though.
