This game jam is another one of the 4 seasonal game jams (hackathons for game developers) that the staff of CloudNovel host each season.
This contest, the Fairytale Jam, is our sixth annual Summer Jam, taking place during Summer 2023 near the end of Spring to the beginning of Fall.

This Summer game jam or contest will be taking place during May 29th, 2023 thru September 29th, 2023.
You're already here! The jam will be hosted here on CloudNovel. To join, create a team for your project or join an existing team to participate in building a game project or drawing a character, background, object or item, GUI set, or composing a music/soundtrack or a pack of sound effect(s)!

The goal of the jam is to make a game or create art/music around the theme of magic or fairytales, or anything to do with fantasy!

You can enter the jam alone or as a team (please choose one member as a representative to enter the jam and make sure you add other teammates as collaborators). In the case of a team entry, the prize will be split among the members.

• You can enter an existing game or existing art/music/sound resource, but over 50% of the entry must be new and falls under the category of this game jam's theme of love/romance.
• Fangames or fanart aren’t considered as a valid entry. Your work must be original. No plagiarism especially art theft shall be tolerated.
• If you are entering a game, you can enter a demo of your game, but you won’t be able to receive the prize until you finish your game project. Only 100% completed games are eligible for prizes.
• You have to publish your entry within the contest time period. Once that time is over, Sonya and the staff will decide how many points to give to you based on what you have completed until then. If your entry is a demo, you have to complete the game afterwards (no time limit) to get your prize, but what you make after the contest period ends won’t add any extra points. 
• It must follow the rules to apply a visual novel as listed (rules here https://cloudnovel.net/forum/fluffness/rules/listing-guide)

And please don't start your game project or your art/music entry before the game jam has begun.

Visual Novels’ Rules:

• Only English entries are considered as a valid entry.
• Entries must have more than 3000 words to be considered as valid entries. (Unless your games are not story-focused).
• You are allowed to use free assets for your entry, but you must credit their owner (make sure the resource can be used for commercial projects).
• The final version of your game must have at least 15 mins of gameplay (otherwise you won’t receive the reward).

Dress Up Games’ Rules:

• The art must be original.
• Entries must have at least over 10+ possible combinations of the dress up character or object model.
• The background and music can be free resources but they must be credited.

Art Submission Rules:

• The art or design must be original. Stock images are okay as long as you have full permission to use them.
  
• You may use AI generated works, however, entries must be transparent and/or usable for a game developer to use in their game development projects. Which means a character must have multiple sprites with different facial expressions, and backgrounds are recommended to have at least a daytime & nighttime version, sometimes even an afternoon/sunset version for a third variation.
• No tracing for artworks drawn by hand.

Music or Sound Submission Rules:

• The music/soundtrack or sound effects must be original.
• No remixes for soundtracks.

All entries will be judged by Sonya based on effort. Depending on the entry you will be awarded 100 points to a maximum of 100,000 points!
